Have you considered a job at a tech company involved with space? These are the great reasons to be looking in the space economy.

Have you considered a job at a tech company involved with space? Whether you are heading to college, recently graduated, or just making a career move, leading space tech companies are hiring. And there are great reasons to be looking in the space economy!

If you have paid any attention to recent news, you are probably aware that the space economy is growing. From space tourism to satellite communications, and from artificial intelligence to the international space station, the options are endless.

Here are 6 good reasons that you should look closely at a career at a tech company involved in space.

Job availability

The space tech economy is hiring. And more, it’s growing. Throughout the space economy, there are jobs to be had with small space tech companies and startups like Rendered.ai and Muon Space, and with larger public space tech companies like Northrop Grumman or Lockheed Martin.

Florida Tech explains, “The space science job outlook through 2024 for space scientists shows rapid growth of 9 to 13 percent, which is faster than the national average of 7 percent growth for all jobs.”

Job variety

One of the best things about space technology is that there are so many kinds of jobs available. While there are jobs in space exploration and rocket labs, the space economy is much broader than that.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that thousands of scientists are likely to be hired by 2024, including 171,000 engineers and more than 8,000 research scientists. Florida Tech says, “Other space science careers include technical writers, public relations personnel, and photographers to capture images from space that show research and activities being done there.”

High salaries

There is good money to be made in space tech companies. Because of the range of jobs, and the variety in space tech companies, salary statistics are complicated in the space economy. Even so, The Bureau of Labor Statistics tells us that aerospace engineers, physicists, and other space scientists average over $100,000 per year.

Exciting work

The best space tech companies are doing incredible work. Beyond the knowledge that your work will help send things into space, the launch system you helped code (for example) may help shape Earth observation for climate change.

Applied science

If you love science, working with a tech company involved in space is a great way to see your science in action. You may be working hands-on to ensure that space systems are successfully launched and that the big data that is gathered is put into action. You may be working as a member of a team that shapes the future.

Global reach

The work you do, even for small space tech companies, will have a global reach. When you help analyze data from the satellite constellation, or help in marketing for public space tech companies, you are making a difference in your world.
